Bangkok, Thailand - Days 1 & 2

A week before our trip to Thailand we found out there were warnings that people should not travel to Bangkok because of political unrest. The news was reporting on what happened the last time the red-shirts gave the government ultimatums. We were a little concerned, but we couldn't very well cancel at that late date...so we went anyway. The airport continued to function normally, and they had extra security all over the city, we felt safe. We were cautioned no to go to the palace on Sunday so we scheduled a trip outside Bangkok for that day, not a problem as we were planning on going to see the Bridge over River Kwai anyway. The Le Meridien Hotel Bangkok was very helpful and had updates every morning on where the red-shirts were going to be. We were advised to take scheduled tours to the other popular tourist sites, so not to get into areas that might be unsafe. We did see the red-shirts on the roads, but they were not concerned with us, only the government.

First night we had dinner at this cat's place.

First tour we went to the Jeath War Museum, sorry no
picture taking was allowed inside.

These floating buildings would actually be moved
around the river. If you happen to stay in a floating
hotel, you could end up way up or down river from where
you where the previous night.

Small boats, huge engines...remind me of drag racing cars

Walking on the bridge

Train's coming

The train is really slow, it's just a tourist attraction now

Next stop the Tiger Temple...We forgot
that in some places women would be
required to cover their knees and
shoulders. The only leg covering available
were these great pants Sabine is modeling,
one size fits none I think! Lucky for me
Wes had a spare shirt I could borrow.

Oh, everybody's got a water buffalo...

It was hot!

The abbot, Phra Acharn Phusit, pictured above,
has been caring for abandoned tigers ever since 1999.

She is only 5 months old

Tony? Is this where you went? That's just great.

Tag, you're it!....
